Greetings All,

No blog the past ten days as we have been in Dresden and Poland... Mindat Conference. A great time in both places, for those that have not seen the Green Vaults in Dresden which have recently been redisplayed... make time to do so.

The Mindat Conference was a huge success, in my opinion, and while there are things you would tweak nobody can deny the organizational skills of the organizers, the food and surprising amount of beer and vodka and the good times. The field trips were fun, particularly the Strzegom (pegmatite) field trip and while none of us found anything of significance we were treated to a small private show after a wonderful lunch at the Granite restaurant where all could purchase at reasonable prices what we could not find ourselves. The city welcomed us with open arms and we were invited to participate in the opening ceremony parade, being a last minute event for us it was a bit 'off the cuff' but Jolyn and crew did well and we found ourselves in a parade in which anyone from the town not in the parade was watching it.

We returned home yesterday. We had taken a budget hotel near the airport... a bit too budget as it turn out. Only one window in our stuffy warm room and it opened onto the electric tram, which rolled by the room every 20 minutes till after 2:00 a.m. We got a few short naps and made it early to the airport. On arriving in Newcastle via Dusseldorf and a layover we encountered torrential rain. After renting our car we waited awhile for the downpour to abate... no luck. So I trudged through the rain to our car, which happened to be surrounded by 6" of rain, I was already wet but by the time Kerith joined me and we got in the car we were soaked from our feet to thighs.

I made it up to the mine by 1:00p.m. and decided we would go ahead and blast yesterday and do the mucking and timbering today. There is one very nice piece exposed in the pocket but cemented into the ironstone and it will take some time on Friday to get to it. So today, heavy rain in the forecast, I will make the best use of my time by trying to do some sawing. You get wet anyway.

That's all from the Dales today.

Cheers,

Cal & Kerith
